Youth .243 Sight In Went Well
« on: September 26, 2009, 02:58:54 AM »
Bought my son a youth model .243 back in July.  After a long summer of waiting for the frame to come back from Illion for 2 20 gauge barrels being fitted, it arrived back on Thursday of this week.  Thursday evening I spent some time sighting in the .243.  Used Winchester 100 grain powerpoints just to get started.  After 9 rounds, was shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards.   Not a bad little gun with cheap factory ammo.  I'm sure with some fine tuning (different ammo, improvements based on the FAQ), we'll be able to get less than MOA accuracy from the gun.  As it stands now, it's capable of taking a whitetail accurately.  Unfortunately, my son was struggling some at 50 yards keeping a tight enough group to participate in his first Youth deer hunt this morning.  At 20 yards, he shot a 1" group.  At 50 yards, he was all over the place but was his first time shooting a scoped gun.  He likes the gun.  I like the gun.  More practice and he'll kill his first deer with it.
