History trivia (but not so trivial)
« on: September 23, 2009, 04:41:05 PM »
During colonial American days it was common for aspiring young men of means to bid for a commission as an officer in the British army. For example, one fellow tried repeatedly to buy a commission, but was turned down because of the prevailing attitude of the British. He was a colonial citizen and there was a definite prejudice against colonials as being too provincial. Finally the young man gave up that ambition and went on to other things. He was George Washington. Imagine the history of this plot of real estate if one of his bids had been accepted.

Luckily for us, like they say " money can't buy everything"!
But it can get you into a government position in DC.
Lord knows, we have the best government leaders money can buy!

Read a little more.... George Washington in fact fought for the British and had a Commision in their Army during the French Indian War. He proved himself as an able Commander in their service.

Redtail:

So much for my source. I read a short story about this, and evidently I should have gone to a more authoritative source. Thanks for the correction.
