Not sure if I can ask this here
« on: September 17, 2009, 12:19:36 PM »
Hi,
If this is inappropriate, forgive me and please pull.  Is it OK to ask if anyone here can ream a .357 mag to .357 max?  I may purchase one and do not trust myself to do it.  I guess I need to know if it is legal to ship a barrel and pay to have it done.  Or is it a task someone local may be able to do?  Also, can anyone suggest a place to order cartridges for the 357 max?  The local Gander Mtn have .357 mag only.  Thanks, I appreciate the advice.
Ron

Ya come to da right place.  The barrel is legal to mail anywhere.  Lyle Mc Gregor at Bill Williams Gun Shop outside of Saginaw MI can ream it for you for under 50 bucks, and the ammo is available at ammobank.com, and I believe reedsammo.com  Lyle's number is 989 777-1240. You can do it yourself, but like me, if your're chicken, you'll let a pro do it.  Everyone here who has done it themselves, says it's simple.

Trust me, You can do it yourself.  I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockin chairs, but it was as simple as all have said.  It took as long to set up and clean up as it did to ream 3 barrels.  I'm one of these guys that can measure something 3 times and still cut it wrong, but I did 2 of the barrels myself.  DP

I have not fitted a barrel to a frame, makes me nervous. I just can't seem to file any thing flat. If I had a mill that I could set up to ensure it was square and flat, then I would do it. Gluing a shim in place is not what I consider an appropriate fix either. But I reamed a 357 to Max myself. You can do it too.
