Older .44 Magnum and accuracy with 225 gr. Hornady LEs
« on: September 17, 2009, 04:20:00 AM »
I got a .44 Magnum barrel Monday from Tim, Quickdtoo.  It was reamed to .445 Super Magnum, converted to a much longer extractor than the factory, and slugged to .433 grooves and .426 lands.  I put a 5 MOA TruGlo red dot on it, put it on paper at 25 yards, and took it out to 50.  It shot a very nice, tight 6 shot group with .44 Mag.; 3 240 gr. SWCs and 3 Hornady LEs.  The LE's were the best.  I then took a 7th shot with a LE and took the X out of the ten ring.  I had hoped for MOA deer, and got much more.  A very large "THANK YOU" to Tim.

I don't know if the LEs are the answer to accuracy with the older .44 Mag. barrels.  Has anyone here got any input on that?

Thanks,

Pete

I put a 5 MOA TruGlo red dot on it,

Based on this I'm gonna get one of those new fangled red dots but boy howdy it better work or its gonna be on then Pardner!  ;D

Been wanting one anyway but that is a nice group, recon my old 35 rem Marlin will do as well ?

Found the target.  It fell behind the monitor.  This is the 7th shot.  Sorry for the blurry pic, I'm new with my camera.

Oldshooter, I think you'll like it.  You shoot both eyes open, don't loose your target, and works great with old eyes.

Yeah, the only competition shooting I do is against my wife, and she humbles me every time.

Hey doublebass, Your signature line is lacking the .45-70, the .44, and the .357.  Ya need to address that situation ;D

I know, I think I want to start with the 45-70. I have to be prepared in case I get picked for the Moose lottery. ;D
