Accustock and accutrigger experience ?
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:41:28 AM »
Hello from Georgia,

I would like to hear from someone who has some real life experience shooting a Savage rifle with both the Accuctock and Accutrigger. The whole idea seems like it would lend to a more accurate rifle and since Savage is known to make some very good guns, it seems like it they be even better yet. If they are as good as I believe the could be, I will likely acquire one in .3oo mag. I had considered another caliber, but this truly is one of the most versitile calibers on Earth. with options ranging from the 100 gr. carbine plinkers up to the 220 gr. moose thumpers, it is reasonable that one could hunt everything from prarie dogs up to and including the great bears, IF, the rifle is very accurate. I have had really good luck with my older model 12, and am eager to hear a report from someone who has one of the new rifles. Thanks.

Dave

I have the bolt in .223. I am very pleased with both features. That rifle is so accurate, sometimes it's boring.  Same with my walnut stocked 7mm mag, with acu trigger.

I have two Savage 10FP Precison Carbines in .223 and .308, both with Accutriggers and Accustocks. Both shoot bugholes. Can't wait to take them deer hunting. I highly recommend the Accutrigger and Accustock, and your choice of 300 Win Mag is a winner.

I don't have an accustock, but the accutrigger is excellent, I have  a model 10 that I made into a 17 Remington, the trigger is great, it will shoot less then an inch at 100 yards all day, you can put ten in an inch if you want any time.  The old plastic stock was the weak point, mine has an after market wood stock, so this is what I get any time I try.  I am 62 years old, so you young guys will be able to beat theis any day.  Larry

I can not speak about the accustock, but it looks like it would work well. I think they are only on lighter weight guns for now anyway. I do have a Savage Model 40 with an accutrigger. I am going to replace it soon. It has too much creep for me. Not only do I feel the tripping lever move, once I get to the actual trigger it moves a considerable distance before it goes off. That is a personal thing and I do not know if it is common among all accutriggers. I have 2 Stevens 200 that I replaced the triggers on that are much better IMHO. I have 2 Handi rifles, that I lightened the triggers on that I like much better. I have a Rugger 77/17 with an after market trigger I like much better. Well you get the idea, of all the rifles I have, I like the accutrigger on the Model 40 the least, with the exception of an old Mossberg 22 mag (640 KD Chuckster), it has got to be the worst trigger I have ever used and there is nothing you can do to lighten it up (what a poor design), I can see why they do not make them any more. Is an Accutrigger better than most factory triggers, yes. But it will not beat a "good" trigger by any means. I have not tried their target trigger, the one that goes down to 6 oz, it may be better than the one I have. The pull weight is not a problem, just the creep. Good Luck and Good Shooting

I don't own a Savage with the Accu-Stock but I did get to shoot one fairly recently....  A .243 sporter-weight similar to my own Savage Model 10 in the same caliber.  The new rifle didn't do anything mine won't do.  Both are sub-MOA with loads they like and not much more than MOA with those they don't.  If anything, mine is slightly more accurate than the Accu-Stock gun that I shot. We're talking minute fractions here of the statistically insignificant kind.  A prairie dog at 250 yards wouldn't notice the difference, and you'd want a different configuration for doing a lot of the kind of shooting, anyhow -something with a heavier barrel than my rifle or the Accu-Stocked on that I recently shot have.

I'm a true believer in the Accu-Trigger.  Mine is set at 2lbs.  It doesn't have any creep or overtravel.  It feels just as good as any aftermarket trigger I've used (Timney and Dayton Traister) on other rifles and I appreciate the safety of the design.  The "Accu-Release" doesn't get in my way at all.  I think its a case where a product really does live up to the hype.  Others obviously disagree.

A pal of mine, after initially making fun of my homely, cheap Savage Model 10, decided that it was a thing a beauty after all after he got behind the trigger of it.  He went out that day to a local shop and bought a .243 Weather Warrior with the Accu-Stock and Accu-Trigger and it is his rifle that I shot.

Never used the accustock but I know that I love my accutrigger!  My 110 in 30-06 can print one hole groups at 100yds almost every time.  As mentioned above, it is almost boring to shoot off of a bench.

I know a couple of people that say they hate the accutrigger but both of them have never owned one.  Probably just jealous of the way I out shoot them every single time!

I have the stainless steel version in .308.  It has both accutrigger and accustock. I love it. First three rounds I fired out of the box were almost touching at 65yds. I have settled on Federal .150 grain with Barnes tripple shocks for hunting deer. I came back to Savage after owning lots of other guns. They're very accurate!!!

I don't have any rifles with the accustock, but I've got two rifles with the accutrigger.  One shoots less than 1" and one less than 1/2" if I do my part.  I'm buying to keeping buying Savage rifles until they give me a reason not to.
