35 Whelen+Barnes X bullets
« on: September 14, 2009, 01:10:31 PM »
I just ran into a deal and was able to acquire a box of .358" 200gr Barnes X-bullets.  Has anyone tried these in their .35 Whelen Handi rifles?  What were the results? Since I only have 1 box of these, any starting load data that could save me experimenting the whole box away, would be helpful.

As always anything you can share is always greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks, Dinny

Dat's one of the biggest problems with Barnes bullets. They are so expensive and come so few per box it's hard to work up a load for them with just one box.  Sadly only your rifle can tell you what it's gonna shoot well. If it does it with that one box I'll be surprised.

Max TSX data won't work for the original X-bullets, the TSX is made with less bearing surface to reduce pressures. When the TSX was first available prior to the #4 manual, Barnes recommendation was to use X-bullet data plus up to 1½-2gr worked up in ½gr increments.
