.19 caliber and other oddball chamberings?

Went to Ammoguide earlier to research some rechambering ideas and found the .19 Calhoon, .19 Badger and .19-223.  Now I'm a real sucker for wildcat and SCHV calibers even though I don't varmint hunt.  Combine the two and you have my attention.

The Calhoon is a necked down .22 Hornet, the Badger is a necked down .30 Carbine and the .19-223 should be self-explanatory...

All three use a 1/13 twist and the only Handi barrel I can think of offhand that would work is the .17HMR.  Any other thoughts/ideas?

Next, I did some reading using the search function and it appears there's no real suitable barrel to make a 10mm other than the .223.  All of the threads I found were at least a couple of years old, has anything changed?  Reaming the .223 to 10mm would leave something like a half inch jump to the rifling, any issues there?

Not quite sure what you are talkin about.   You would have to rebore and rechamber to get a 10mm.  Not really sure if a 19 cal would clean up a 17 caliber either.  Could always stub a barrel to get something else also.

A .22 hornet can be bored to make the 10mm but that is a lot of money for something that a .357mag can do or a .357max way out do, the only reason to do a 10 would be just because you want one. As for the 19 the only way to do the badger or .19-223 would be get a barrel from Calhoon and have it stubbed, Wayne York a site sponsor can do that. The .19 Calhoon/hornet might could be done from a .17 HMR and Wayne could tell you if he could or not, I doubt he would have .19cal boring tools thou. Which leaves a stub job for that.

Wayne doesn't do anything less than .223", and a .172" bore can't be bored to .19", there needs to be more difference to clean up the old rifling.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see any ballistic benefits to a 19 caliber. With the availability from popular suppliers of components for the 17 centerfires (Fireball, 17 & 221) and the 22 Hornet, and the next step up with .222 and .223, why spend the dollars on a caliber that you have a limited suppliers for?

Why a 10mm?  Why not?   If I stopped with what I NEED, I'd only have a .22LR, .308, .30-06 and 12ga.

SCHV calibers simply interest me even though I have no real use for them other than for fun.  Most are too small for deer and there's no varmint hunting anywhere close to me.  I suppose we all have our own little collecting/accumulation niches.

Calhoun folks will sell you a .19 kit, including barrel, that you have your smith thread. I would try it on a Stevens 200 as they are the easiest and cheapest to change barrels, and you should be able to get one under $300. However, you may not be able to find a suitable bolt head in the Stevens for the .19. You could do the 19-223 and just use a Stevens 223 and have no bolt head issues at all. If the rebarrel works fine, you can sell the unused 223 barrel to help pay for the job.

The rechamberings of a H&R 22 Hornet I like are the 221 Fireball, 22 BR and 22 PPC. I know they do not meet you sub-caliber interests, but I think they would be interesting to do, especially the two bench rest cartridges.
