gun season getting closer still no handi
« on: September 08, 2009, 03:28:34 PM »
i sent my handi rifle off on march 16th for two new barrels a .223 and 30-30 after the first ten weeks of waiting i called to see what was up.  thier response was the .223 was on back order but the 30-30 was ready to go.  the next eight weeks went by still no .223 but they say the 30-30 is ready to go.  on week eighteen i say forget the .223 and send me the 30-30 which they said was still ready.  week twenty-five they tell me the 30-30 is on back order. has anyone else had this type of trouble? should i be worrried that they lost my gun? what would you do?

Bend over and kiss THAT gun good-bye. Sorry but that seems like B.S. to me. I hate to say how glad I am that I haven't sent any frames in each time I read these horror stories. This has been one of the best decisions I have made lately. Even though I really want and would have by now, about 6 barrels.  I would be upset if I was in some of you guys predicament. Very bad for my health. You are better men with more patience than I. I've been afraid the barrel program may become a thing of the past. It can't be profitable for them if they can't send any out. The calls to C.S. have to be on the hot side. Good Luck to you! Hope it works out.

I hope you recorded the serial number before you sent it in. They more than likely had a 30-30 barrel for you and while you were waiting on the 223 barrel, they took the 30-30 for someone else. This is speculation, I really do not know. I do not think they have lost your frame, but stranger things have happened. I have sent in twice for barrels and got them back in a timely fashion, but it was before the move to NY and I called ahead of time to make sure the barrels I wanted were in stock. You did call to make sure they were in stock didn't you? the first one I sent in - I wanted a 44 Mag barrel for and they told me right up front they did not have any, so i asked if they had a 357 barrel. They did so that is what I got along with a 30-30 barrel. I bought my 44 mag as a new gun in late '07. Well any way; make sure the barrel (s) you want is in stock before sending it in. There are many people that have had good experiences with sending in frames to NY and getting what they want in a timely fashion. Good Luck to you - I hope it works out for you.

Good luck they had mine for 3 mo.,when they finley sent mine back[orderd 357 and 30-30 barrels] they sent 357 and 45-70 barrels.Called CS they said I would have to send frame back and they would send return shipping box for me which they did,but when I got the box my 30-30 barrel was taped to the outside of the empty what I thought was a empty box,but when I opend the box I found some guy's 45 long colt barrel and recever from I think ohio.Called CS they did not seam to care that much about it, never got a call back from them. This went on for about 2 weeks, I had to keep calling them to send me a return shiping box witch they said they would but never did. Finely I called them not to worry about it that I was going to turn the gun over to BATF to get it out of my house they beged me not to do that and that they would have a box sent to me, I had a box at my door within 48 hrs.By the way the 30-30 barrel fits like CRAP. they said I could keep the 45-70 barrel. I hope it all works out for you.

WOW!    You have to still be scratching your head over that one.
That is one twisted tale. BEST decision I've made in a while.

I will never send in for a barrel to be fitted!

There are many, many, favorable reports, but then those ugly ones rear their ugly heads and it's enough to convince me, that when you send one in, it's a chance you take, and I'm not willing to risk it.

I'd rather take my chances with a used barrel from the classifieds any day, but that's just me!
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

About two or three years ago, I called Gardner and asked what barrels they had in stock.  I had five or six I wanted.  They had a stainless Huntsman, a stainless 30-06 and a .22-250.  I sent in the frame and had everything back in 21 days.  The key is to find out availability FIRST.

called today and finally talked to someone that told the truth he said that when ever i cancelled the .223 barrel the computer system kicked my order to the bottom of the list like i was a new order which is completelly BULL.  he said he would try to have something worked out between now and monday but we will see.

I've had a NIB .30-30 Handi on order for the past several weeks.  My counter-guy says it's back ordered and as soon as it comes in, he'll call me and we'll do the NICS check.

I don't especially need it for gun season, but I'd like to write it up for The Frugal Outdoorsman.
