I picked up my new 12F today!
« on: August 18, 2009, 01:56:06 PM »
I picked up my new 12F today from my FFL. It's been sitting there a week while I was on vacation. I ordered an action & stock from Jim at Northland, plus a McGowen barrel in 6.5x284 from him as well.

Here's the pics...

As unwrapped before assembly:

After installing and headspacing the barrel... (I'm getting really good at this, it took me longer to round up the tools than to do the job).

I still don't have a base and rings yet... Can't decide on which ones I want...

 ???

I'll bet it will be a shooter.  My 110 with a McGowen 6.5x55 is amazingly accurate.  I kinda wish I had got the 6.5x284 but I already had the dies and Norma brass for the Swede.  I put a one piece mount on the long action to stiffen it up but you don't have to on your model 12.     You have put together a nice rifle and will be really proud of your work when it puts the first bullets in the same hole.

I am sure it will be a shooter. Should reach out there and touch what ever you want or make tiny groups way out there. That is what I like about the Savage actions, you can custom build a gun for a fraction of what it costs a shop to build one up.

I am always looking for new sources of Savage parts. Can you give me the address to Jim of Northland?

Never mind, I found Jim of Northland, thanks ;)
