I am almost 52, but I do feel "older" if that can be quantified. That being said I can honestly say I reached rock bottom about three years ago when both of my knees went out on me and I could no longer excercise due to the pain. (old injuries from a tai kwan do tournement 30+ yrs ago). With no excercise came a bunch of weight.....gained almost 50 lbs in 3 yrs. The more I gained the more sluggish I felt. Developed heart arrythmias, had to get on 6 different meds, cholesterol went sky high....etc.
I saved some money and had knee surgery last year. the pain is gone and I can get out and walk, hike, and ride my bike again. I have dropped 20 lbs, quit smoking cigars, cut the caffeine down to almost nothing, and don't try to rush so much. My cholesterol is down and I am feeling "younger" than I had in the past.
My goal is to beat the family curse. No male on either side has seen the other side of 55. I know I am going to see 70!
