Where to sell my RWS 52?
« on: August 27, 2003, 06:19:51 PM »
I'm wanting to sell my RWS model 52, and found out you can't sell pellet guns on Ebay. Does anyone have any suggestions on a similar auction type site where I can sell it?
Thanks.
Oh, by the way, it's almost new; I put about 40-50 shots through it but someone gave me a RWS 350 Magnum so I had to choose between the two. I'd like to get $325 for it.

Why don't you try posting it on Graybeard's Classified Add forum.  I'm sure you'll get a bite.

If not, try Auctionarms.com or Gunbroker.com.

zthang,

I agree with Chris.  Give the Graybeard's Classified Add forum a chance first.  What I would like to add is why not tell us about your new 350M?  What caliber?  What kind of velocities are you getting with it?  How is the accuracy and what kind of pellets are you using?  My daughter's boyfriend is thinking about getting one in .22 caliber to be able to hunt turkeys with(Calif. legal min. is .20 caliber(5mm)).  Lawdog

Thanks for the advice. I'll try the greybeard auction forum before I try Gunbroker.
My RWS 350 Magnum is a pretty nice air rifle, in my opinion. Mine is .177 caliber. I noticed that it does jump around a bit more than the mod. 52 (doesn't feel quite as solid) when I fire it, but that is because of a stronger spring, and also the 52 has that big thick barrel and the muzzle break (basically a big weight) at the end. So far I have about 100 shots through the 350, and it is pretty accurate. I haven't shot it from a bench, but from a squatting position I can reliably hit an 8" circle at 75yds. Granted I do need to practice some more but it definitely shows promise. At 25 yds I can keep them all in a plastic coke bottle cap with the Crow Magnums.
I have a chronograph, so I tested the rifle with a large variety of pellets. I found I get the best accuracy with the Beeman Crow Magnum, Kodiak, and the RWS Super-Mag (a wadcutter). My favorite is the Crow Magnum, at 9.0 grs I get 1010 fps at 5 feet from the muzzle. The Kodiak, at 10.2 grs, gives me 940 fps. This is the best one for long range, as it is a heavy pointed pellet. The RWS Super-Mag is 9.3 grs and gives me 960 fps.
The highest velocity pellets I tried were the Gamo Match and RWS Super-H-point, at 1130 and 1125 fps. The Gamo was very accurate but shot 4" high at 25 yds; the Super H Point was all over the paper, not accurate at all. Incidentally, I noticed a supersonic crack with these two pellets, the rest of them stay sub-sonic.
These all work out to 20 to 21 ft-lbs, it seems to work pretty well for crows. I shot a potato on end with the Super Mag; it made potato wedges.
I did try most of these pellets with the Mod. 52 as well; it gave velocities 100 to 130 fps lower than the 350 Mag.
Sorry for the long post but you asked for details!

zthang,

Yes I did ask for details and thank you for giving them.  Your post wasn't that long.  I too have found that with the "magnum" air rifles you get your best accuracy with the heavier pellets.  If you have not tried them give the Kodiak Match a go.  They only come in .177 and .25 caliber but in our .25 calibers(my son's Crow Mag. III and my Rapid 12/250) they give us our best down range accuracy.  For penetration try the Silver Arrow or the Perfect Rounds, the Rounds give the best penetration.  For hunting though you can't beat those Crow Magnum's.  For body shots on 4-5 pound bunnies it is all I use.  I haven't lost a bunny in the three years I have been using them.  One last thing, I stopped by Ebay last night(bought a scope) and noticed that they were selling "air soft" pellet guns.  I wonder why they won't let people sell adult air rifles?  Does anyone have the answer to this?  Lawdog

The fastest moving place to buy and sell airguns is American Airguns Classifieds.
I haven't sold much there but I've found enough deals that I've managed to purchase a dozen or so guns there in the year or so I was aware of it's existance. the top gun bleow is my most recent score from there. It's a .22 Axsor(PCP).  The gun beneath it is my QB 78(co2) with Mac-1 tune and shrouded barrel. Both are .22. The axsor shoot 16 gr JSB Exacts@ 890 fps while the QB sticks a 14.2 Webley Lazapell out at 630fps at 82 degrees.
