94AE Big Bore Scope Mount options

Good day all.
I am rather new here, and I have recently aquiored my self a beautiful Win 94 in 356Win...

I am quickly seeking some decent bases for the rife and am having a hard time ... can any one recomend a good model and a good source for a base that fits the oem drill and tap?

Thus far all I can find are Weaver (which isnt a bad option by any means!).... and it seems Cabelas is the most cost effective source but they dont specify if the base they carry fits the 94Ae and the 94 Big Bore's ... is there a difference in the drill and tap between the non big bore 94's? Looking through my Brownells catalog they seem to have a different order number for every base that weaver sells... which dosent clear things up at all...

so in short... im looking for some bases, preferably weaver style mount (since leupold rings are so much more money than many others) ...and a good place to buy them (quickly... elk season is 4 weeks away!) Thanks in advance!

K-Conrad:  Call Brownells and speak with a tech rep.  There should not be a difference in scope mounts for Big Bore 94AEs, regardless of caliber but might be some difference between the Big Bore 94AE and the 94 AE, if they differ at all.  

I think the Weaver rail mount is pretty good and since the Big Bore 94s are angle eject, you should be able to mount a scope fairly low to the bore.  I would call them - there is always more at the store than in the catalog and at Brownells they have some very well qualified tech reps that you might not find at Cabela's.  HTH.  Mikey.

I Contacted Brownells, and was recomended the Weaver Top mounts and the correct models.. (actually they recomended leupold.. but as mentioned, I dont feel the cost difference in leupold products is justified, except for the glass.. the scopes are truly devine, but thats just me)

Hopefully they will be here in about 4-8days....

Now to beat my brains out on a good "sporting" scope for this little gem!

Would you (or anyone) have any expierence/opnions on the use of the more modern slugg/shotgun scopes for these rifles?
I have been concidering many options that have power from 1.5-4 and a 32mm fixed objective... with eye relief options from 4" to 6" they seem a happy medium to the scout/handgun scopes (eye relief in the neighborhood of 11") and the usual 3" relief on most rifle scopes... Thanks again.

Look at the Burris Fullfield or Compact scopes.  Made in USA, good optics and they stand behind their product.

K-Conrad:  I just picked up a Bushnell Dawn to Dusk Riflescope of 1.5-4.5 power with a 32mm lens, just as you described.  I am quite pleased at the clarity and quality of this scope and it doesn't bust your wallet.  Find anyone locally who carries the Bushnell scopes and see if it fits your needs.  Otherwise, there are a number of others with fixed power optics and the old standby Weaver K2.5, K4 or K6 come into mind, as well sa others.  I like the Bushnell.  Good luck and let us know what you find.  Mikey.

I use a Leupold VariX IIc 1-4x mounted in Burris signature rings and weaver bases on my 94ae .44mag trapper.  It has been a most excellent setup for this little 100-125 yard brush buster.  It has never lost zero, and the Burris rings have synthetic inserts that eliminate stress on the scope tube and help to prevent ring marks or damage.  The little trapper has decent muzzle blast and a little kick, so I do appreciate the generous eye relief of the leupold, as I don't like walking around with 'coon eyes'.

Sorry Im late in my reply...
I have been transfering as much as I can from my Windows computer to a new Linux box... Im just tired of MS/Win bull crap!

Anyways.. the mounts arrived and were just right... I also picked up some 4X4 rings which seem very nice as well... Thanks for the input on the scopes... Im snooping around ... and have been giving the Dusk Till Dawn scopes a hard look...
