Humor in the news, Red Light Edition
« on: June 06, 2009, 02:54:04 AM »
Lynchburg, Virginia has a long tradition of prostitution that has been eclipsed by it being the home of Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University.  But there is that other side of town that continues.  If you ever visit the Confederate Cemetary, on the right side of the road going in, the first enclosed area has a headstone in the form of a headboard.  It is the final resting place of the Langhorne sisters, who were prominent madames.

In this light, the report of the arrest of a Lynchburg woman for running a brothel caught my eye.  I read it with interest, having worked with the health department in trying to protect the population from the ravages of sexually transmitted infections.  In doing so, I got to know some of the working girls around town.  One of my fondest memories was my director looking at me and saying, in all seriousness," Shouldn't you be out chasing some loose women?"  And to think, I got paid to do just that.  Anyway, it struck me as rather funny how this house got busted.  Seems it was the neighbors.  Sounded like business as usual to me.
