im gonna master this gun
« on: June 16, 2009, 01:26:07 PM »
im gonna do it an take my time..each day i plan on making one 100 yrd shot..
i think shooting other guns affects how good i am with this 110 30 06..
 i ll be shooting a 165 grn with 2790fps....
i have at one time put three rnds into one ragged hole at the 100,so unless shes suffered some ,,that don t show.. i know im not doing,, what i can with the gun an rnd..im in no hurry an we ll see..
one thing about it ,,i should know for sure when the accuracy is uniform ,,day to day,,, slim
ps  for those who read my post about going long.. i finished up what i needed to know about what the drop is out to 400....  that being about as far as i can go until ,i master the gun a bit better..yall have a good day..

Since you have developed a good load for your rifle; I am going to assume you have a cleaning issue. Unless you have shot a minimum of 3K- 4K rounds, or shot 50 shots in a row with out barrel cooling, I seriously doubt if you shot out the barrel. You say you are shooting it 1 shot every day. Are you cleaning every day? Have you cleaned it at all? Or are you just shooting and putting the gun up and then shooting it again the next day? Every gun likes some thing different as far as cleaning goes. Some extremely accurate rifles like to be cleaned every 6-7 shots for top accuracy, that is what most bench rest guys do. Some rifles like a dirty barrel; especially the average hunting rifle - but even they can get fouled to the point of bad accuracy. Since you have developed a load for your rifle and your accuracy is starting to drop off, give it a through cleaning. Use a bore guide and a good 1 piece cleaning rod, so you do not damage the throat and bore while cleaning (clean from chamber to muzzle). Push through your patches the same way. I personally do not use any bronze brushes and rarely use plastic brushes. There is no right way to clean a barrel. There are 100's of ways to clean a barrel and they all will work, but one thing is common; using a bore guide and a good cleaning rod. Once you get your barrel clean shoot five fouling shots and note any POI changes as you fire the rounds. Then shoot it daily until you notice any drop off in accuracy, note how many shots it took to get there. That will tell you about how many shots it will take to foul the bore to the point of accuracy drop off. Good Luck and Good Shooting

i appreciate the input brother.. it turned out i was into a bad box of ammo.. this from a rnd ,fusion 165 grn.. that would group almost into a big hole.. i pulled a rnd from each box that i had left.. 6 rnds ...
presto im back in the saddle..now i can call my shots again ,,instead of wondering what the hecks wrong..
a bad box of ammo that you have come to depend on ,,can really mess up an otherwise good day :)..
thanks for your input though.. im real particular about caring for my guns. slim
