Forend stud
« on: May 28, 2009, 10:34:08 AM »
I found a H&R 357 Mag single shot in Stainless Steel.  Friend of mine bought it new in the late 80s, less than a box through the gun when I got it.  Mounted a scope and good to go.

Now the bad part.  There is an internally threaded piece that is welded to the bottom of the barrel to allow you screw the foreend to the barrel.  This threaded piece broke off flush from the barrel.  Happened while shooting not while removing/reinstalling the forestock.  Looks to me like the original weld didn't penetrate very well.  Open for suggestions on a repair.

Why be difficult, when with a little extra effort you can be impossible?

H&R has never made a stainless 357, just nickel plated, forend studs are resistance welded on, you can have it MIG welded, silver soldered or dovetailed or even use epoxy, I've used JB weld and SuperWeld with good metal prep without any problems, but the other methods would be preferable.  ;)
