T Ball is almost over!
« on: May 17, 2009, 05:48:40 AM »
The boys and I have had a blast this season.  Our last game is Monday.  We are tied for first place and Monday's game is the championship game.  I am happy that the boys and little girls have done this well so far.  I posted some pics of this season and thought I would share them with you guys.  For those who don't know my boys are named Evan, Bradley, and Wyatt.

Great pictures Heather and I appreciate and applaud your efforts as it can sometimes be hard to get parents involved with the full rigors of these activities.

If I was there, I would be like that harley kid as I can resist taking my own picture of myself on other peoples camera's if I can catch them unaware, even today! ;D

My four (soon to turn five year old) grandaughter will be playing T ball this summer and they have already had a couple practices. She is a great hitter as I pitched whiffle balls to her from the front porch swing (I was sick & undergoing chemo) most every day last summer. It was not too uncommon for her to hit one over my head and out into the yard. I would warn her to be very quiet retreving the ball when this happened because the BEAST was out there. The "beast" was the dog in the movie Sandlot which she greatly enjoyed even as a three year old so she would pantamine great caution when getting the ball back ;D

Harley was my first child.  His mother, (my uncle's crack head girlfriend) called me when he was 6 days old.  At the time I was 16.  She told me to come get her crying (bad word that I don't say) or she was gonna kill him.  I went and picked him up.  He lived with me until I got married.  He was born with fetal alocohol syndrome and addicted to crack cocaine.  He cried A LOT!  My mother was a nurse that worked 12 hour shifts at a time and my grandmother stayed out of town with an elderly woman 4 days and nights a week.  The burden of taking care of the baby fell to me.

I didn't mind too much except the fact that for the first year of his life I don't think I slept more than an hour at a time.
I took him to day care on my way to school and picked him up when I left.  He went to cheerleading practice, basketball, softball, or volleyball practice with me.  The school was really lax about the situation.  I even got to take him to school once to take a final exam because his daycare had already closed for the holidays.

My grandmother adopted him when he was 3, but he calls her Nanny and me Momma Heather.  He is still like my eldest child even though he doesn't live with me anymore.  I see him everyday.  He is a straight A student and an all star in Baseball, basketball, and a pretty good football player.  All in all he is a good kid.  Sorry I went off on a rant about my Harley, but I am just so proud of who he is turning out to be despite his challenging start in life.

Kids are so funny.  They have a truly uninhibited imagination.  I love playing games with them like you do with your granddaughter.  Matt was the "beast" at our house with the basement. We were afraid of them falling down the steps so he invented the basement monster.  I never had to worry about the boys trying to sneak down there. :)

The photos of T-ball bring back memories.  Those little guys and gals were so funny.  Many were out there without a clue as to what they were doing.  We lived in Washington DC at the time, and many of the parents had never played ball or anything like that as kids themselves.  One kid would finally hit the ball after two or more misses, then all the kids would go after the ball.  even the kids on the bases, and the hitter.  The best way to describe it was like a bunch of little bees.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

If you can handle those little demons you're probably qualified to manage in the major leagues!

Yep T-Ball is great to watch and a great way to get the kids to work together. My son inlaw is a coach and our 2 oldest grandkids are playing Cassie 7 and Jesse James 5 . Its fun to watch the kids in their learning curves, Nanna and myself go to all the games. Cassie is in softball also so our time is well used.   ;D

Heather, thanks for sharing the pictures. You brought back good memories. I think it is great what you are doing. I also coached t-ball for three years and little league for seven years, but that was some time ago. I am 73 now. I also helped with my grandkids also. I have two greatgrand sons and they will be playing before long. I think you are the first lady coach I have heard of. Keep up the good work. Carl L.

Congradulations on the season. I really love this time of year because we spend most of our evenings at the ball park with our girls as well. They have a blast playing and everyone that we know is there as well.

Heather, here is an idea you and Matt might try. It's what I use with my 2 boys. I got a rubber baseball, although you can use a real one if you like. I drilled a hole in the middle of it, just bigger than a standard clothsline rope. Cut about 6 or 7 feet of line, thread it thru the hole in the ball, and tie a knot, so the ball can't come off the end. Then I found what was an old wooden shovel handle, cut it off to about 8 or 9 inch's, and drilled a hole in it the same diameter as the hole in the ball. Thread the line thru it, and tied a knot on that end. Then you can swing it around, and your boys can swing at it, and you don't have to chase a ball all over the yard.  gypsyman

I guess that is one way to do it.  We purchased a zip hit pro.  It is a ball on 2 nylon strings with a handle at the end.  You attach it to a fence, playset, or anything stationary that it can clip 2.  Then someone pulls the strings apart and it zips the ball down the line.  No matter how hard the batter hits it the ball pops right back to me on the other end of the strings.  Neatest invention in baseball I have ever played with.
