been working up loads for my 204 bull barrel. Nothing has been that great. Some loads are absolutely horrible and then some are pretty close. I tried to increase the oal a bit and it made a difference but last night I wanted to see how far I had to go to get to the lands. I inserted a 40 grain bullet and just barely got it to seat. I still did not touch the lands! Normal seating depth for the 40 gr v-max is 2.250. The longest I could get the bullet out and still seat was 2.350. A 32 grain v-max does not have the boattail design and I could get that out to 2.400 not that I loaded it, I just was trying to engage the lands to get a max measurement. I never got one.
question; is this normal or excessive ? I know some load their rounds 5-10 thousands off the lands but that is not even an option here. I am trying for sub inch groups here with this bull barrel and so far nothing consistant. I have shot it with out forend, sand bags, shooting rest, floated the barrel in the forend. About everything in the FAQ. For coyotes I would have no problem but I am wanting that clover leaf group at 100 yards. I have about 300 rounds down the barrel. what are your guys opinion??
