Extractor on 204 Ruger
« on: May 18, 2009, 12:40:46 PM »
How much pressure is the extractor supposed to put on the cartridge when loading or unloading?  My 204 is tighter than it seems like it should be and pushes the brass up to the top of the barrel opening.  My 45-70 is not nearly that tight.

Is this normal?  Could it affect accuracy?  Should I try to take some metal off the extractor which would relieve the pressure, or just leave it alone?

I would leave it as is.  Mine is tight but it doesn't affect the accuracy at all.  Infact it is one of the most accurate rifles I've ever shot.

My Ejectors for the rimless cases, like .223, .243, .35 Whelen, and 30-06 are tight and drag on the case as it is loaded.  On the 45-70 and 30-30 it does not touch them till the case rim hits the ejector.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
