I have a new (new to me)H&R SB2 in .22Hornet I bought 4 years back like NIB, I would like to get a .20ga barrel and .357magnum pistol cartridge barrel with open sights and a shorter wood butt stock for my son to shoot it.
what kind of situation will I encouner doing this, Ive read some not to encourageing things about the sighted barrel and service and backorders and whatnot Im aprehensive shipping a gun to NewYork??
I live in Northwest Alaska and would be interested in dealing with a west coast H&R shop.
How much does It cost to get a shotgun barrel or a .357magnum sited barrel? they send them to you? or you send it to them?
It all sounds like a big ole problem just wateing for me.

Look into the classified section for what your looking for.  Fitting the barrels yourself is a piece of cake and so far it has only been necessary for me to actually fit the barrel 50% of the time.  Check out the fax section on this forum.  I have never sent a frame in to have a barrel fitted.

A youth size 20 runs about $120 ordered from Dick's. Slightly more than buying a youth stock and a 20 barrel new. At that point you have 2 actions. Send one in for the 357 barrel. 357 barrels don't last long on the for sale board. And go for as much as a new barrel. Parcel posting 5lbs from AK to NY probably takes 2 weeks and costs $15.

Whats it take to fit a barrel to the action?
Is it different for a shotgun than a .357? I ended up with a couple 1 gallon zip lock bags of heavy loaded .357's with lead/gascheck bullets (Ruger Black Hawk stuff) the kid can whack rabbits with that.
I was thinking of getting a used buttstock and cutting it down to fit the kid, sand & finish it with a rubber butt pad.

Beats me. I think that I am up to 9 centerfire rifles and shotguns. 7 are practically the same fit. Could interchange barrels with no obvious difference in feel or lockup. One shotgun is way, way off. A new 20 gauge Tamer. Ie, every rifle barrel is way too tight. But I don't want to put rifle barrels on there anyway. One rifle is off, but the other way. Ie, every other barrel is loose. That would take major effort to fit barrels. All guns were new or barely used. All made in the last 10 years.

I've had three .357 barrels now.  All shot one hole groups at 60 yards and locked up tight to non-factory fitted frames.  One is now a newly reamed .357 Maximum getting dialed in.  I bought one barrel from the manufacturer, one on a used rifle, and one here.  They're all shooters.  Right now, if you really want it, I'd just go buy the complete rifle.  The factory is slow, there aren't many good ones available here, cause everyone wants one and thems that haves em ain't lettin go.

The youth stock should be here....just ask on Want to Buy Classifieds.  Come to think of it the 22 inch Handi .357 with a youth stock would make a nice truck gun for dad.  There I go again.....preachin' the gospel to the choir.

you can always custom make a stock for the kid...measure him up,figure in a recoil pad fit to his LOP,cut down an adult pallet wood stock, install recoil pad, good to go

Good luck on that one.
From the sounds of it they are in the process of making up some, but the new ones won't have open sights, just a clean barrel. As stated these are tough as hell to get ahold of, so I would also reccomend looking for the complete rifle in 357 that or the combo.
