Encore Rifle- Impressive
« on: June 27, 2009, 04:02:44 AM »
Got an Encore 209x50 for deer hunting and was impressed with its accuracy- so I bought a 223 barrel and put a Weaver fixed 6x on it. First time at the range I was getting 1/2 inch groups with Sierra 53 grain Matchkings and IMR 4895. I was so impressed I have added a 7mm-08 barrel for deer hunting, and cant wait to see what it can do. My only concern with the firearm at this time is the forearm and how to CONSISTENTLY attach it to the barrels. Was wondering what is being done by you guys to assure that the forearm is properly attached to your Encores.

I think you have already hit on the key word....CONSISTANTLY.  I sometimes think us TC shooters overplay the forearm thing.  Over the years I've tried all sorts of things....glass bedding...etc.  Currently on my Encore barrels I use spacers cut from old 12ga shot shells around the screws and lightly and hopefully fairly consistantly snug up the screws with only my finger tips on the screw driver.  Of course the 209 X 50 barrel comes with factory pillars and I use nothing else there.
GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  ;D

I have a T/C Encore and I use the 209x50 and 223 Remington rifle barrels which both have synthetic forends.

I just tighten the forends snug, and I achieve incredible accuracy.

I didn’t change anything from my 1997 blue frame; it has a crisp trigger and no hammer extension.

So you've discovered Encores are accurate.

I've never tightened forearms with anything but feel, i.e., I don't torque them but tighten them so they're snug.  That has always worked for me.

Just make sure that the forearm "ears" are not contacting the frame.  This happens pretty often with new guns or new forearms.
