Rossi single shot 357 rifle ?

Hello:
I was wondering if anyone here hunts deer/bear/hogs/or whatever, with a Rossi single shot 357 mag? I took a nice 250lb buck with my 44mag Rossi single 2 weeks ago and have been thinking i'd like to find a used 357 for the wife to use.
If you hunt with one in 357 cal. what have you taken with it and what ammo did you use?

The quyick answer is Nope don't own any Rossi in .44 or .357 BUT would love too!

My side thought on this is why .357 for your wife?  Could you instead buy a .44 mag handloader and reduce the load to a suitable round for her?  Of course if your both afield at the same time its hard to share 1 rifle......

I have the Rossi's in .308, .270 and 762x39 and all can be reduced if need be, my 7 yr old was shooting x39 and LOVED it.  His best shooting experience.  The bullet would not have much expansion or power but it IS a legal round.  I fully expect him to be up to the .270 or .308 when he is hunting age however :)

I got into reloading recently and the best part of it is the flexibility that reloading provides.

I have a 357 rifle I picked up for my youngest daughter and I will tell you after extensive testing with different powders,loads and bullets I have worked up a load that I have no doubt will be effective medicine for whitetails.The Rossi will put 5 Hornady 158 gr XTP's into a 1 1/4" group at 100 yards,and it hits with authority.I am quite surprised at the velocities attained with a longer tube.THE 357 MAG CARTRIDGE IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT ANIMAL WHEN SHOT FROM A RIFLE.I have the gun sitting in the safe as my daughter decided that she wanted a 270 bolt action afterall.

I don't own the single shot, but do own a Rossi Puma with 24" barrel in 357.  It's one of 5 rifles I own in that caliber and they will certainly put down a deer, I have taken several with 357 out of the rifles.  With the right bullet, I have read of people taking hogs with them as well.  Get on the hog hunting site here on GBO do some reading on that.  Get one and you may have to get another for yourself!  Hodgdon LilGun is a very good powder for the 357 if you reload as is H-110 or W296.  DP

I got a look at the new Rossi 44 mag single shot at Whittaker Guns this past Friday.  Nice.  It has the new synthetic stock with the detachable cheek piece.  It comes with open sights and a scope rail attached.  The cheek piece did not fit my cheek well, and it appeared to me that the front sight was misaligned a bit. Otherwise I really liked it.   Price was $199.00 before tax.

Hey Xhare I believe we share the same stomping grounds.! Are you talking about Whittakers guns in West Louisville near Owensboro.?  I live in Muhlenburg Co & shop at Whittakers from time to time mostly for reloading supplies & rimfire ammo, but I buy most of my guns at the local Uncle Lee's sporting goods in Greenville.

I have one that i picked up 6 or 7 years ago origionaly for plinking. Absolutely love this gun. it seems to like the heavier bullets better. took a buck in the northern zone of new york at 130 paces double lunged it and blew out the left shoulder and it dropped where it stood,and that was with winchester white box 125 gr.jsp. just put a simmons pro diamond 4X on it and switched to lever revolution and am printing 1.5 in @ 100 yards.
