pardner SB1 .410 fitted for rifle barrel?? Good option???
« on: August 19, 2009, 05:55:24 PM »
i have had an Nef Pardner .410 for about 15 years...  it sees limited use as a pest gun around the yard...
today i contacted the factory to inquire as to whether, or not, they would fit a rifle barrel to this frame...  the rep that i spoke with replied that it could have a rifle barrel fitted to any of a limited set of chamberings (.223, .243, & 7/08)...

i was intrigued by the thought of a .243 as a do-all utility rifle, but research on other forums indicates that a large percentage of the .243s have accuracy problems...
anyone know if this particular information is true, or has merit??
if it is true, can anyone explain why one particular chambering would have such problems???

has anyone had an SB1 pardner shotgun fitted with a rifle barrel???
how did it work for you???
Thanks in advance...  JW

Welcome! Even if your .410 is on an SB2 frame,  it can't be fitted with any high pressure * marked barrel which the 243 is, H&R won't fit them to any SB2 frame made before 1999 which is after yours was made since you've had it for 15yrs. Please read the accessory barrel page info on H&R's website, you were told wrong or they misunderstood you. The only barrels you may get fitted other than shotgun barrels are the 357mag and 44mag if it was made since 1987. Also spend some time in the FAQs and Help sticky, it's there for H&R newbies and oldies alike, chock full of info like what's the difference between an SB1 shotgun and SB2 rifle frame, required reading for everyone.  ;)

when i spoke with the factory today they inquired as to the serial # and i told them the model designation as well as the serial number...  the rep told me that it was made in 1994 (the same year that i purchased it), and that it was suitable for rebarreling to the set of chamberings listed above...
he seemed pretty sure of his information...
i'll check the FAQs....

Like I said, they told you wrong, call again, read their website info, they're infamous for giving incorrect information unfortunately.  ::)

well...

checked the FAQs and the links therein... Looks like some pretty good information, and put together rather painstakingly...
it is apparent both from your FAQs and the HR1871 site info that i'm not about to get a rifle barrel put on this frame.... and it is an SB1, made in 1993, according to FAQ info
i owe the guy who directed me here to GBO a "thank you", at least...

it also appears, from HR1871 site info, that only shotgun barrels are available for this frame, as opposed to the mention of the .357 or .44 barrels mentioned above...
thanks for the help...

Like I said before, H&R does fit SB1 frames made since 1987 with 357mag and 44mag barrels, but they've never updated the website, those two rifles and the combos come on SB1 frames from the factory, see the model numbers.

Juanw welcome to the site and unfortunatley you have found out what has to be delt with by calling cutomer service @Remington whether it's ignorance or some type of marketing ploy to get folks to send thier frame in then try and sell them something else or just plain stupidity on thier part you just can't hardly believe what a customer service rep tells you anymore. Read the FAQ's here and ask your ?? as you have seen this site has put togeather the most comprehensive set of facts on the web or anywhere for that matter pretaining to the H&R and NEF brands anytime anything has been provin false it gets changed imediantly and all here are more than happy to help you out with your guns and by the way it's not nice to let your gun sit idle for long periods of time get out there and shoot it you don't need pests to shoot at...tin cans ripe tomato's old squash clay pigeons grasshoppers are all worthy opponets. Welcome aboard. Kurt
