Scope problem
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:15:10 AM »
I have a 10 in 32 Mag barrel with a Leupold 3x9 on it. There isn't a sunshade available for the current scope and it gets smoked up in a silhouette shoot. I have the option of swapping it to a .22LR barrel or just clean it. Does it matter? Anybody got a better idea?

Thanks,

Did ya ever think about just sliding it back further to get the objective lens out of the way of the mess coming out of the barrel? I'd say yeah it matters if it's getting on the lens but if only on the metal it likely ain't gonna hurt anything.

Back when I used a 10" .32 Magnum in competition I used a Leupold 6x42 and never had any such problems with it. They are pretty close to the same physical size as best as I recall.

It's all the way back and still gets smoked. I'm not sure if it matters.

You might roll up a cardboard sleeve extension and tape it on.
