Used barrels
« on: April 29, 2009, 04:07:27 AM »
Just curious if anyone has noticed any more or less difficulty fitting a newer (1-3 yr old) barrel to a 10 year old action/frame. I have an "H" and would like to maybe go with an "N" bbl.
Thanks,

Really it shouldn't have any issues.  If it does, then see the FAQ's for bbl fitting information. :)

Thanks, I guess I'll start looking for a "virgin" barrel...

Just go ahead and get the barrrel.  You buy the beer and Atlaw and I'll help ya shim it.  Seriously, no sweat the FAQ's will tell you how to fix about anything.  If for some unknown reason it didn't work, you could get your mony back here on the classifieds.

Atlaw, would you recommend metal or glass shims, or both? ;)

Pete

Thanks Pete, I just brought my first Handi, a 270 ultra comp, home a couple weeks ago and didn't pay enough attention when I bought it, because she was a little loose. I went through the shim procedure described here and after the second try the shim held and came out very nicely so far.
I was mostly concerned about tolerances over the history of the companies products as I know changing vendors and/or mfg methods could be a problem. I basically didn't know how closely one had to match serial #'s.
Thanks again,
