Proud of my 2 pistols
« on: April 30, 2009, 05:22:07 AM »
Below are my 2 babies.  The Purple .308 has killed 3 deer , and a rabbit.   Loads of fun to shoot and the muzzle brake and the Bushnell Holosight are awesome features.

The Red .22-250 is just too much fun to shoot.  It needs a muzzle brake , but funds are scarce, so it will have to wait.     So far it has killed a few golf balls out at 80 yards and has a lot more power than i expected.

Those are some very purty pistols.  On the 308, how far can you be accurate with the holo-site?  How much of the terget does it cover at 100 yrds?  I am unfortunately getting to the point in my life where pistol scopes are getting hard to see thru.  Open sights at this point are also nearly impossible.  I have always been leary of battery operated optics for hunting (batteries dying at the shot of a lifetime).  Are there any other options?

My Holosight covers about a 3 Inch circle at 100 yards.  Maybe less....   It is so easy to get on target and a lot of fun shooting.
I have impressed myself with my shooting, and I dont have the best eyesight either.
I feel like the unpowered red dot gives you less chance to make an error since you are just aiming at the center of the target and not having to wait on crosshairs to move to where you want them.
I have shot a pistol with a cheap $ 40.00 red dot and it did not compare to the Bushnell Holosight.
The holosight is "holographic" and it looks as if the dot is out on your target, or deer, and not just in the scope housing.
I hope you get a chance to try one some day, I think you will be impressed.

On the battery subject,  I turn my sight on when I get in the stand and leave it on until I get down.    Usually a 5 hour hunt is the norm, and i change the batteries probably twice during deer season.
When the batteries get low , the sight dot will flash when you first turn it on.
I can usually hunt 2 more trips until it dies.
The sight uses 2 "N" batteries,  i get them about anywhere batteries are sold and they cost around $4.00 for a pack of 2.
I just carry a few packs with my gun and change them in the stand if i have to.

Once I get over around 150 yards you really start to cover more of the target than i want.
At 200 + yards you can cover a good portion of a deers front shoulder, i personally just take the pistol when i know I am going to be within 100 yards.
I still take it sometimes when i hunt my field box stand , but i always have a rifle handy , too.
It is a really amazing sight.   I am glad I chose it.

That's a nice pair of pistols. Who made the grips?
