35 Rem preferred ammo?
« on: April 27, 2009, 01:09:47 PM »
Hello,  I wanted to get a few opinions if I could.  I have a TC 16" 35 Rem barrell that I've used for a a few years now.  I used it to take a couple sheep, and after switching to the Hornady pointed ammo, have taken a few feral hogs with good results.   I intend to hunt with it a good deal for whitetail next season.  If you shoot a 35 Rem, what is your preferred round (factory)?   I've hand loaded in the past for a numbe of guns, but don't intend to handload for this one, simply because I don't have the time to devote to it right now.  So in a factory round, 16" TC, .35 Rem, what's your choice for whitetail, no farther out than about 75 yards.  Thanks..

Remington 200 grain RN Core-lokt.   Family has been shooting them for years and they work in the .35.

You might want to check out Marlinowners.com forum and do a search on ".35 Remington" whose a member there.  He did a very extensive terminal ballistics study of the various .35 bullets at 5 or 6 distances and a variety of velocities.   He even included photos of the recoverd bullets...

I have hunted with a Marlin .35Rem  for years and always shot Factory 200Gr ammo.

I bought a box of the new Hornady LeverEvolution and was amazed at the performance.

I immediately had my groups jump about 4 inches at 100 yards, not touching the scope at all.

They are a vast improvement over the standard old ammo i have shot for years.

Try a box and I think you will be impressed.

Thanks for the replies.  I've shot both the Rem RN CL's and the Hornady pointed 200gr's, both in my contender and 336 Marlin.   I switched to the Hornady pointed ammo in both, and so far am satisfied with them.   THe Hornady in the contender has accounted for several feral hogs so far.  Don, thanks for the tip,  I will look for that info.  35 Rem is my favorite caliber in both the TC and Marlin 336.
