New to me 336 W 30-30!
« on: March 02, 2009, 01:23:38 PM »
Well I never thought I get a 30-30 didn't really need one but I had a bunch of brass laying around so I decided to go to the local shop and see if there was one at a reasonable price. Well they actually had quite a few 5 ! So I looked them over and found this one already scoped with a 4X $350 out the door. It is a micro groove, should have look harder but hey we'll get it to shoot.  ;D

Congratulations on you purchase of a Marlin. I just purchased a Marlin in 30-30 and found that they are very accurate and handle very good. Yes, I thought the same about the 30-30 but after reloading and sighting in the rifle I am very confident that it will serve me very well and I hope yours new 30-30 will do the same.

I have a couple of 30-30's on the rack of which one is a brand new Marlin as well. I picked up the new XLR in stainless steel and hooded front sight. It a limited edition NRA egraved version and its a great shooter. This one will never see the woods only the range.

I'll be honest... I really did not need another 30-30 or lever gun for that matter. But that stainless steel, laminated stock and engraved receiver were just to hard to pass up. Real purtty..

Well I took this 336W out and put a bunch of cast bullets through it. Been loading the Lee 113gr soupcan an went an killed a few ground squirrels with it!  It will do head shots out to 100+ yards pretty well so I guess it's a keeper! ;D

If you're taking head shots at squirrels at 100 yards, you found better ammo for your 336W than I did.  I need to get mine out again and try to do some real load development for it now.

Not one thing wrong with Micro-Groove.  I just bought a new 336W with 5 boxes of ammo for $100.00.

That is stealing.  You're lucky to get the ammo for that much anymore.  Don't tell us it was some widow that didn't know what the gun was worth was it?

I got it from a guy at work that buys stuff and then gives it away or sells it for about nothing.

You got yourself a steal of a deal on that for $100. Nice looking gun. I'd pay $150 for it and I have no use for one. So you did great!

Don't tell us it was some widow that didn't know what the gun was worth was it?

I have read too many stories about old widows that turn in their deceased husband's gun collection over to the police for destruction. So I am not bothered by someone getting a deal like that.

Seriously, it would be better if the guns went to a pawnshop rather than a smelter.

Been shooting the same Model 94 Winchester 3030 for 51 years. Bought new in 1958, it still does the job. Bluing and stock finish pretty worn, but anything out to about 260 yards is in big trouble. No scope, but these old eyes have been looking thru the same aperture sights for a long long time. ;) A 3030 will kill most anything that needs killing in north America.
