Anyone have a scope on their Puma 92?
« on: March 17, 2009, 07:27:02 AM »
I know, I know a scope on a lever action is considered a sin by some, especially on the 92 style.

I'm just curious because I saw this.

The reviews for it aren't the greatest, but it really got me thinking that maybe I could extend the range of my little rifle and have some more fun with it.

I know Puma makes a model that comes with a scout scope on it, but I haven't heard anything about those either.

Not yet ,but I'm going to get a rail fitted and screwed to the barrel just behind the barrel band to just past the rear sight dove tail.

I will also be mounting a Lyman peep on the receiver and will mostly be using that but I like the option of mounting a red dot or scout scope up front and where the rail is located it won't interfere with my carry grip around the receiver.

I have that mount and used it extensively when developing a  load for my 92 in 45 colt.  I use a tang sight for shooting, but in developing the loads, the scope was helpful.  Not the best mount for hunting, kind of fragile/flexible, but comes on and off easily and requires no permanent change to the rifle.

Graycg,

How exactly does that scope mount attach to the Puma?

I used a base for a T/C Contender. Requires drilling and tapping. The scope detaches easily with this rail mount or Weaver, for that matter, and the reciever sight is always there. A good solid setup. I hunted with this abit and like it. I don't hunt with irons anymore as most shots come in lowlight and I prefer optics for that.
