I was wondering if they were interchangable. I wouldn't want to fit a modern rifle barrel on one of the old receivers though.

I've fit Hand/Pardner barrel to Topper frames.  I don't know if this information helps.

I have not had any luck with the older snap on for-end models fitting SB2 /1 frames. But every one made since with a screw on for-end, has fit or been fit easily.

My 357maxi is fit to a SB2 up until just recently. ;D

Is it called a Handy Gun II Model 258 or is that what you are calling it? What's the letters of the ser # and what exactly does it say on frame and bbl? What length is the bbl? and contour? Kurt

It says "H&R HANDY GUN II'' on the right side of the receiver and "MODEL 258'' on the left side of the receiver  the serial # starts with AZ

Prefix AZ is 1985.  That barrel should fit on a newer receiver with minor fitting and possible no fitting.  What type barrel is it??

I'm scratching my head :) What's the caliber and bbl contour? Might be a special production run for a large retailer is it just one bbl or a combo? "I scanned over the sticky and didn't notice anything about the handy gun II listed" got a picture I've not seen one with that stamped on the frame before. Case color hardened? Kurt

I have an older Topper 30-30 and a 22 Hornet Topper.  The barrels off of these 2 won't fit any of my later frames, nor will the later barrels fit on these frames.  Just checking fit, no I wouldn't try to shoot them.  The barrels won't swap between the 2 frames, either.  The underlug seems to be a bit longer on the older barrels.  They both are the screw attached type, they aren't the snap on type.  Your results may be a lot different, this is just what I found on these 2 guns.

It is a gun I am looking at to buy. It is a 30-30, 20 gauge combo, standard contour open sites and drilled and tapped. Both barrels and the receiver have a nickel finish. I am wondering if the barrels would interchange with the other handis that I have.  I was just wondering if any of you had one of these already. Apparently it must be a rarity. I blame all of you on here for all of this!! Before I joined this forum I only had one handi and one pardner,  I now have 3 shotguns and 5 rifles and am always on the lookout for another. :D you all are turning me into a handi-holic.

My guess is that if it has a screw on forearm (even if it is the 1/4 28) that it will fit.  Larry

I have a model 058 with an AZ serial number, a 30/30 barrel and a 20 ga 3" chamber barrel.  I have wondered the same thing, toying with the idea of keeping the 30/30 barrel to use on a new SB2 frame.

Sure don't want to buy a frame by itself and then find it won't fit, Gosh, maybe I better just buy a whole 'nother gun?  Yeah, the wife will agree to that, I'm sure.......... :)

Keep us informed on how this quest goes, I'm sure I'm not the only one curious about this.

what you all should find out is that the lugs are different on the older guns and won't work on the newer sb2's, I used to put together combos with the older guns back in the day and if your looking to sell off those older barrels then contact me I'm interested since I still use my old guns.

This gun is featured on the front and back cover of the 1983 Guns Illustrated. It is called the Handy Gun II Combination and came in 22Hornet, 30-30, 357Mag, and 44Mag. Also came with a canvas carrying case. Hunman55

troy you need to buy that gun and whatever else comes with it. Also on the fitting there are 2 ways of looking at this, one is can I take the bbl from the old gun as is and put it onto a SB2 frame will it fit... my belief is it will not as I have a few and none of them fit as is at least not well enough that I would expect great accuracy. The other is can you make it fit by using the procedures in the FAQ's most likley yes but then it won't work on the other frame. My suggestion is buy the gun and bbl's find yourself a copy of the 1983 covers put them in a frame and love them forever. I got one 22Hornet that I keep wanting to rechamber to 22-250 cause of the 1-16 twist but evey time I pick it up to look at doing it the little guy on my shoulder say's you can't do that to this beautiful old gun. Keep as is and enjoy. Kurt

One of the things I was looking at was this. I have one of the modern stainless frames and was wondering if I could take the extra barrel and have 2 great looking complete stainless/nickel guns. I have kind of got hooked on the idea of the complete gun compared to having to swap extra barrels around. I don't think I could bring myself to modifing one of the old barrels very much if at all.

Now when you say Stainless frames are you talking about Nickle or Stainless Steel. The only Stainless Steel frames so far are from the New Ultra 444 and the Ultra 45/70 all others are Nickle plated I have them in both SB1 and SB2. Kurt

It is an older frame I picked up at a local pawn shop, probably nickel.
