ok one more silly question.
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:22:24 AM »
I think I know the answer to this but I am the kind of person that when I research I want to know everything I can. When the barrel is locked up how will oil or lubrication on the latch or latch shelf affect accuracy. I can understand if it makes it slip and causes it to move up and down but if it is locked it should not move without pushing the release button. I am just curious to hear some responses I have well I think I have made it through the whole FAQ's and I am not a gun smith and alot of it was confusing. Like I would never try and rechamber a barrel if I did it would be the only gun out there you could shoot around corners with ;D I just dont understand the oil on the latch thing to me locked means locked no movement

Thanks Guys

Oil has mass, Any mass on the shelf can change the lockup, Not much but still a change.   You change the lockup and bullet impact changes.

It's all about consistency there is all kinds of vibrations your gun is going through when shot. The latch is bouncing slightly as this vibration is happening the oil would just add a changing variable. The latch and the barrel need to mate as the gun is being broke in, oil kinda hinders this. I'm sure some of the other will give you a better technical version.

??? Yo Big, I don't know the answer, but I'm sure we'll get some help with it.  If it will help you feel less

silly  ;) let me throw this in.  At times in the past, I have concluded that a simple shaft with a rifled boar

through it, after the industry has had 500 or so years practice "to get it right", add a chamer @ the rear,

again plenty of practice, chamber a shell, close it up in some manner, touch the shell off with a fireing pin,

HOW can it do anything other than go straight to it's  Point Of Aim ?  But it can & does do "other" .  A piece

of "tupper ware" plastic touching something, some wood rubbing over here, I didn't hold my mouth right  ;D

AIN'T  IT  FUN  ?   ;) :) :D ;D        Jim

The latch design is dependent on friction to work properly, oil interferes with that friction, real simple.  ;)
