[My 39A is a newer rifle. Is there any drilling and tapping required to put a FP on it?]
No.
If your rifle has the side mount holes (plugged), the FP-39 is the proper sight.
If it's so new that it has no side mount holes, then the FP-39-TM, that mounts in the two forward scope mount holes atop the receiver, is the one to get.
The TM sight might require a higher front sight blade, in order to zero the rifle, due to it's possibly higher line of sight.
And....... don't forget to order or make, a rear barrel sight slot filler blank, so the rifle won't have an empty dovetail after the rear barrel sight is removed to give a clean peep sight picture.
