Just finished my conversion of a Crosman 2240 air pistol to 9mm, using the DAQ 9mm barrel and receiver. It was a pretty simple project; but before I installed the new receiver I did a few other modifications.
Step 1: Disassembled the gun and removed the valve. I placed it in a vice and using a pair of pliers, unscrewed the assembly and pulled out the guide pin and spring. Using a Dremel tool I removed excess metal from the guide pin to open up air flow around it. Next I increased the diameter of the valve port and increased the size of the chamber, again by removing the excess metal, then cleaned and lubricated it before putting it all back together again.
Step 2: I made a new transfer port coupling using aquarium tubing and an O ring I purchased at a local hardware store. I glued the O ring in place in the middle of the coupling.
Step 3: I reassembled the gun replacing the stock barrel and receiver with the DAQ parts. This is a single unit consisting of a 10 inch 9mm barrel and receiver. It was not necessary to replace the barrel band as the integrated barrel / receiver of the DAQ negates the need for this additional structural support.
Step 4: Opening the trigger housing, I filed and polished the trigger sear, before lubing and closing it back up.
Step 5: I fabricated some nice walnut target grips, using my Dremels router unit and sander.
My chrono is down and Im waiting for a new one so I cant give velocities; but setting up my target in my basement range I did some target practice. I was shooting 80 grain pyramid pellets at ten yards. The first shot printed in the center of the target, and knocked over the pellet trap! I shoot this set up a lot, and nothing has knocked over the trap before. I placed some extra weight on the trap, and then continued shooting from a portable rest. The first three pellets printed a tight group. I got about 10 shots before the POI started dropping substantially.
I took the gun out in the field to try it on squirrel today but didnt kick any up within range. I did get a shot at a pigeon that was about 13 yards away, nailing him right in the head busting him up a bit! He was very DOA. I built this gun to go after guinea fowl on my next trip to Capetown.
