I tried a .375" carbide rotary file in my drill press, it didn't work, just too course, just chattered due to insufficient support. One that was finer might work, but I never found any locally.

I use those in my hi-speed air grinder. No they are not cheap...

 What are you using them for deerjackie?

I kinda thought so..
The propper tool for the job is avalible form Midsouth, Midway and Brownells. Its a Barrel bedding tool and its about $24 bucks. When your done the job will be perfect, not sloppy and no hickeys or bobos. They are avalible in different diameters.  You can get by with a slightly smaller one and carefully open up the channel for the wider areas.

Not for forend work, for cutting the pivot to fit the barrel to a frame.

 Oops, MY BAD!!  Sorry guys.

 How much is needed to be taken off!!! Power tools for this job sounds like there is an aweful lot of material to be removed.

 i got it closed last night and looking for the 001-002 feeler gauge now.i thought it would never work but then it closed!drill  bit and 2in wide cloth and zip ties to hold cloth on did the trick.this one was tight! will post pics of grandaughter and i getting the superlite 20 in 223 tweeked soon.quickdtoo,i cant say enough about you and your help.you are the handi hero.yall have a good day,just got off work and its my bedtime.if anyone ever thought they could nt fit an acc. barrel,loose that thought. ;) thanks graybeard for this site. deerjackie

I really think this is why handies are great rifles and why I like them so much.  This kind of work takes more tooling and skill on most any other type firearm.  There is great satisfaction in makeing something work yourself. 8)
