New forearm questions
« on: February 24, 2009, 10:48:54 AM »
I just ordered and recieved a new forearm from NEF/Remington.  First of all, I did not realize that the forearm screw did not come with the forearm and you would have to order it seperately, and Secondly, the new forearm does not squeeze down on to the barrel stud like the old ones that I have but seems to have a stop built in that would limit the contact between the forearm and the barrel to only the stud.  Good yes, but now I have to buy a forearm screw.  Anyone else see this or did I get the "special" forearm ::).
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.

I have a checkered camo lam forend that came from Brownell's that has Remington marked on the box it came in, it fits fine, it's on my 30-30AI Handi, shoots tiny little groups with a fridge magnet pressure point and no other changes other than adjusting the fit per the FAQs. It has the round cutout for the forend stud base instead to the oblong cutout they used to use. They never have come with a screw, but should come mounted with the spacer and sling stud, the screw can be bought at most well stocked hardware stores like Ace, it's just a standard ¼"-20x½" flathead, the phillips is harder to find here, but is available in slotted and socket head too.
