Which would be most accurate in a Handi or Remington /Bakial
« on: February 25, 2009, 08:54:53 AM »
Ok I need a truck gun. I was going to have a factory heavy fluted bbl put on my Handi in either .243 or .223 But I've heard the .243 gives people lots of trouble accuracy wise, is this true ?
I also ran into a Remington / bakial in both calibers for around 250, is the a fair price, how do they shoot and how would you put a scope on one. It has a single slot by the reciever and is very hard to open. Of course putting a bbl.on my handi would be cheaper. But I'm interested in the most accuracy possible for what I've got to spend. I've got to stay oput of these gun stores  ;D

Handis are supposed to be more scope friendly. Rems have a weird 11mm dovetail for a scope and a tough to adjust iron sight (prob good for a truck gun though). The few Rems that I have handled have had tight actions, no external hammer (I see this as a neg), awful triggers, and that funky helical flute on their barrels. The barrels are supposed to be excellent shooters though. Hammer forged. I believe that the barrels are quite short, which again is a plus in a truck gun.

My local shop has been sitting on 2 Rems in 7.2x39 and .308 for months. Handis fly out of there within 2 weeks.

My .357 Handi is my truck gun.  I'm going to do a .357 Max. barrel for it, and I think it will be the ultimate truck gun.  The .357 is a tack driver now, so I'm getting another one for the conversion.  Not wanting to mess with a good thing.

Remington /Bakial
I have one in 243 cal. I pick it up last summer for $175.00 used from a local guy : I have shot it with 95 grain noslers and IMR 4064 shoot one hole all day long.I am trying to get the 105 speer to fly but still no luck .
I tried IMR 4831 the barrel twist should be o.k. from what I here  1 in 9 1/2".I am going to try a new powder IMR 4350 with the speer if all  fails I here great reviews on the seirra 85 grain HPBT for deer hunting.
I like the rem: not crazy about the trigger set-up .I did remove the internals saned all moving part with 600 grain wet@dry I think it was haging up on the inside of the action which led to a couple om mis=fires during range testing.
I scoped it with a simmons whitetail 3.5x10x40MM they were on closeout from natchezz I did have to cut the stock and add another recoil pad to get my L.O.P. to 13 1/2" scope does not much movement with the 11MM rail set up.
I think the the millet rings also came with the gun

Don't know about accuracy but every Handi I have dealt with is a very good to exceptional shooter.  And theyre AMERICAN made.   I will support my country instead of KOMRADES overseas (even though big green has both lines now.)
