Refinishing Handi Receiver...
« on: February 14, 2009, 10:40:01 AM »
Hey, fellas, I've had my Handi for almost two years now and out of all my guns I've had it's been my fave! What a surprise, right? It  is a .45-70 with the matte finish and synthetic stocks. I'm replacing the stocks with the checkered walnut wood from my topper deluxe and i was wondering what I could do with the receiver. is the matte black finish painted or is it just a non-polished blue? Any ideas? Thanks, andy.

It is probably parkerized.  Larry

parkerizeing is a chemical etch finish.  You would probably have to sand it off and thats just creating alot of trouble.

I just asked Remington what they're using, it's bead blasted and black oxide blued, so I'd try using bluing remover. If you want a shiny finish, you'll have to do some sanding/polishing.

Thanks Tim, that sounds like a plan. I'll have to get to disassemling the thing right away!
