First kill with the H&R .223 Ultra Varmint.

We squealed this pair in on our second set. The female was taken by my buddy at 30 yards on a dead run towards us. I started to wonder if she was going to run us over. I took the male with my Ultra Varmint 223 at 220-250 yards when he decided to bolt. Was my first poke with the gun and am very happy as the round hit where it was supposed to. Nother better than feeling confident in your gun.

EDIT*** Hope you don't mind DsrtRat but the picture is very dark on my end and I did a little enhancement so I could see the coyotes (& your Handi) a bit better.

220-250 yards with a 223 Handi Ultra Varmint.....GREAT SHOT!  You just gotta love those dandy little Handi's!

Well, just to prove that it was not a fluke, I was lucky enough to get another nice male this evening. Was a 100 yard shot in a corn field. Hit top of heart , he jumped straight up, spun around and it was over. This guy was part of a howlin pack and came to a female howl that we did. he musta broke from the pack as I waited a long time bfore I poked him to be sure he was alone. When I was sure no more were coming, I let him have it. I love my little Ultra Varmint!!!

I am using Winchester 55 gr FMJs. 11$ CDN /box. They fly great out of my gun. I bought them to break in the barrel. Looks like I am breaking it in 1 coyote at a time.

All three were taken near Guelph, Ontario Canada. It is about 1 hour west of Toronto. Coyote population is doing well the last couple of years.

I will post some pics of the new guy tomorow.

Man! You rock Dude! That is some awesome shooting on you and your Buddy's part!
Those are some nice yotes! Sounds like you are happy with the performance of the
Handi 223. H&R should put this up on their website!

The reason I went with the H&R was I was looking for a cost effective way to go from having essentially no Varmint gun to totally rigged up. The H&Rs are very well priced and a single shot is all you get in most cases while hunting coyotes. I also thought a single would be nice as I have a lot of archery experience and I know that having only one chance to get er done, you tend to take your time and do it right the first time.

I had read alot about accuracy problems but came to the conclusion that in most cases (not all), it was amtter of tinkering and dotting the I's. That fits my nature perfectly. I love to mess with my hunting equipment and mae modifications. After very little meesing around, my gun was shooting great right out of the box. I could not be happier. 2 shots, 2 kills. In both cases the bullets hit where I put them. the gun carries well, is simple to maintain and no one I hunt with has. I guess I like being the "different guy" in the room.

I am hooked on H&Rs!
