I'm not sure if anyone seen this website for scaled plans.  I thought I post it anyway.  Dom

Dom,

I did see that website about a week ago. Some of the catalog photo's appear to be right out William Green's Catalog.  The listings aslo seem to be Green's

Williman Green made, published and sold a series drawnings of Civil War era Cannons dating back into the 1970's.  I have a number of Greens drawing and in the early 80's made a number of cannons for resale using his drawings and techniques.  I Currently have only two of those cannons.

You may recognize my 42 PDR above the Green called an M-1841.  I think this is actually an 1840 pattern.  Another part of Greens plans call this an M-1814.

There are other errors in the Green drawings, but you can still build a quite nice cannon using the Green drawings.  I am waiting for some one to order a set of these drawings so we can see if they are based on Green's work. If they are they will be quite usefull.

I ordered and received plans from the gentleman concerned.  The plans are indeed Green's.  I got the 9 inch Dahlgren Shell Gun and the Dictator Plans.  They seem complete and were on A4 size paper, enlarged to A3 they are very easy to read and use.  Still building some brass Naval guns for friends and then a model of a 64 pounder Armstrong for a local fort society, then I can start on these.  So many projects, so little time.

I think my meager efforts will not bear comparison to the work I see on this site.  I build models of naval guns for friends for fun, one rather large letterbox in the form of a field gun and this Armstrong project which I have to admit I have been stuffing around with for over a year now.  I have the cheeks and capsquares for the iron pintle mount sorted and the barrel (going rusty) turned to basic shape but I seem to have stalled with the squared bases for the trunnions.  I also have a long term project of a display (non firing) full sized model of a volley gun (7 barrels and flintlock so I suppose it counts as on topic here).  That is also starting to rust after I roughed out the barrels and surrounds and the brass ends.

Like many others, my enemy is time.  I just can't get any time to do all my machining projects and earn a living at the same time.  Still if there is some interest and minimal laughter at my workmanship I do have some photos I can put on the site here, no Goex cans though in Australia, an old one pound IMR rifle powder tin will have to do for scale.

shooter2, nobody here's going to laugh at your work; please post photos, I'd like to see them.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

WAIT a minute!

As DD has posted, WE'VE made quite a few very functional (not very pretty often) and LOTS of fun (and SAFE) mortars and cannons.

Check out the results of the golf-ball mortar making contest - you'll see quite a range of styles and workmanship.
