.44 magnum handi range test.
« on: January 23, 2009, 07:21:41 AM »
Last year I purchased a .44 magnum handi for deer hunting.  After trying a couple of different rounds in it (Winchester white box 240 grain jsp and Hornady leverevolution loads) I settled on the leverevolution and was consistently shooting 1 1/2 - 2 inch  3 shot groups @ 100 yards.  Plenty of accuracy for hunting.

I recently picked up a box of fiocchi 240 grain JSP and yesterday took them (and my handi) to the range.  I was shocked after the first three round group to see true moa accuracy!  I tried it again and had the same result.

Needless to say, I'm very pleased and thought I would pass it on to others who might own this same gun.  While yours may/may not group this well, it might and the fiocchi ammo is about $26.00 per box of 50 so the price isn't bad either.

I never thought I'd get moa out of the gun.  I just bought the Fiocchi ammo to plink with and was gonna save the hornady stuff for hunting.

Regardless, it was a nice surprise!

I know many people do it, but I think of the .44 mag as a 100 yard cartridge out of a rifle.  Matter of fact, I've never shot @ a deer  past 60-75 yards with any firearm.
