Transfer bar issue
« on: January 24, 2009, 03:26:12 AM »
Wow, that FAQ is awesome.

I got up this morning and grabbed my Buffalo Classic.  I noticed a "rattle" that wasn't normal and look down to see the striker is loose and moving.  Needless to say i nearly had a heart attack.  No need to fear though, as it is covered in the FAQ  ;D

The post in the FAQ was dated 2007 and it was stated that that was a problem a year prior (2006 I suppose).
Just as a heads up, my BC is a 2008, so hopefully it's not a recurring problem.

It looks like I need to "open her up" and re-install.  Can I just use the instructions for a trigger job to dis-assemble and gain access for repair??
If so, it looks like its the excuse i've been looking for to do a trigger job.

Yes, that will get you there, the t-bar doesn't need to be removed to do the trigger job, but if you're already in there, might as well take care of it.  ;)

Tim,
I can't seem to find a good pic, so I'll just ask the master...

I'm assuming there is a small pin that holds the striker and lifter together as in a hinge?
It seems that it would be the only way that assembly would work, and since I don't see it anywhere, I also assume, that when it came loose, it is now hopelessly lost.  I'll have to see what I can do to find a suitable replacement if possible.

It really is my luck that I would have this kind of problem on the day that my 270 barrel arrived from Jerry.

You would be correct, the Broken Transfer bar link in the FAQs shows a pic of the t-bar along with the part number from Brownell's.  ;)

Gentlemen, thank you so much for the help.

I've got a makeshift pin I peened in for now, just to hold everything together for now.
I'm debating wether to call H&R customer service or just go to brownell's and order the part myself.

Gardner used to send free t-bars, but I dunno if Remington will, it's listed as a restricted factory part which means they need to install it usually. The other option is to have them repair it and do a trigger job while it's there getting an accessory barrel or three!!  ;D

Well, I made myself a makeshift replacement pin for the striker/lifter and got it all put back together.
I went ahead and ordered the striker/lifter from Brownells, along with a few spare parts.  I realy didn't want to send my rifle off to H&R for some undetermined amount of time.  I didn't work enough on the trigger to reduce it much, but now that I know how it all comes apart (and more importantly how it GOES BACK CORRECTLY!!), I'll take care of that when my makeshift part gets replaced.

Thanks for help!!!!

Oh, and the 270 barrel that came in...  fits like factory  ;D

I asked Remington to send me a tbar to replace the bad one that came in my gun but they said no...offered to repair it free if i sent in the gun but at the time they were in transition and there were lots of stories here about long waits from the factory so i ordered from brownell's
and fixed it myself....since they are inexpensive you might want to order an extra one to have around..while you're at it i would get a extra mainspring(hammer spring),another good spare part to keep around
