Custom Handi rifle
« on: January 26, 2009, 10:21:27 AM »
Some time back a customer of our shop stoped by and asked if I would build him a custom rifle based on a Handy rifle.    After talking it over I took the job.    He wanted a Claro stock with checkered steel butt plate and skeliton grip cap. Four barrels chambered in 45-70, 38-55, 7mm08, and 30-30.
I turned down the 7mm08 and 30-30 barrels to a light sporter contour, the 45-70 and 38-55 barrels were given banded front sights since I used a steel trigger guard I made up steel forearm spacers for the two forearms.    I checkered the skeleton grip cap in 28LPI and the stock and forearm with 22LPI.    The forearms are held on the rifle with Deeley latches.   I will to try to post s few pictures of this rifle, hope you enjoy them.

This picture is of the Deeley latch on the forearm, At this point I had not checkered it yet.

That rifle ran $5400 but there is a lot of time involved in building it.   We specialize in building guns to fit the shooter so most of the time I work from the stock blank and most of the work is by hand.   In order to get the fit we want we do not use  duplicator usless we are building a matched pair of rifles.
Hay, what do you people think of a Handy rifle (Buff classic) in 9.3X74 or .450 # 2 N.E.?
I forgot to post this one.   This is the two barrels with the banded front sight.

This picture sort of shows the skeleton grip cap.

Kind of contradicts the idea of a cheap beat around rifle that you really don't care that much about as long as it shoots.

THAT! I really wouldn't want to take it out-to nice.
BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!

Awesome looking outfit!

Hay, what do you people think of a Handy rifle (Buff classic) in 9.3X74 or .450 # 2 N.E.?

The .450 doesn't seem too different from other similar rounds, BUT the 9.3, WOW, that sounds exciting!

:-[OOPS! Iwas thinking of the .450 No. 2 revolver cartridge!

Either would be quite unique.
