Ramshot Powders
« on: January 09, 2009, 10:47:58 AM »
Several years ago I read about Ramshot powder in Handloader Magazine.  Other than a few other references since, I have heard very little about these powders.  They sound good, being spherical and tempurature stable.  Has anyone had experience with this brand?

Haven't tryed it yet, but have several pounds to start playing with this summer.  I like the fact it's supposed to be very clean burning and not temp. sensitive.  I have TAC, Hunter and Big Game to try, may get some Magnum for the 257 Weatherby.  Been meaning to try it before, just get lazy and go with a proven load when I need to load more. ::)  I have yet to hear any negative about it and it is distributed out of Western Powder Co, 150 miles away, so need to support local business in these times.  DP

TAC has been doing well for me in the .222 and .223. Worth a try if you load either of those. Handloader and Rifle magazines have been pushing Ramshot powders.

I have used quite a bit of TAC in my AR-15. It gives me results comparable to Varget. TAC does seem to be relatively versatile in that you can find loads, in my case, for .223, 303 British, 7.62x54R, 7.5 Swiss, 8x57, .308. I haven't noticed any temperature sensitivity in a Texas summer. Meters well in my Pro Autodisk.

I've had excellent results in accuracy with Ramshot Big Game in my 243 using 70 and 80gr bullets.  I have TAC on hand that I'll be trying soon in 223 with 50gr bullets and maybe even try it in my 300 Savage with 150gr bullets.

I just bought some BigGame to try, it was $4 less then the IMR cans.  Powder and other components are getting hard to find on the shelf in the Phoenix area.
