Random Idea about a Random Jug shoot.
« on: January 13, 2009, 11:23:44 AM »
This thought has been churning around in my mind all winter.  Why don't we get together in the Spring when the snow is gone and the black flies and mosquitoes haven't come.  Say about May 8, 9, 10.  Set jugs out to 300 yards and lets all shoot.  Handis only and offhand.  Any caliber.  I think it would be fun and the barbeque and goodies after the shooting would be filling.  The companionship would be great.  The big problem is would anyone want to travel to the edge of nowhere?

There's a lot of time between here and there.  Send me some feedback.

Pete

It's Engadine, MI, on the upper peninsula, 50 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge on U.S. 2 and 8 miles north on M-117, then a mile east.  If you look on your map, it is right next door to nowhere.  There are an awful lot of other fun things to do here in the Spring.  Camping, fishing, boating etc,  As I said, those dates are between snow and bugs.

You may well have something there, Rusty.  The only problem would be Wayne Garber would come from Port St. Lucie and shoot the pants off all of us.

Kurt, the latch string is always out.  You're welcome any time.  Ya gotta remember, we've got 8 months of winter and four months of rough sledding. :D

I'm still debating on the Hooker shoot this Spring.  After the lens transplant the vision in my right eye may still be worse than it was before the surgery.  There's no point in spending a grand or two trying to shoot PDs you can't even see.  It would still be great to try the closer ones and hang out with the guys.  So, I'm undecided as yet, and will have another appointment with the eye doctor soon.  Perhaps he can do something for me.

This goes for all of you.  Don't you ever venture into Northern Michigan without stopping Here, and you'd better have at least one Handi with you.  (You can always use one of mine if you don't).

I forgot to add, he'd do it with his Wesson and Harrington .45-70 and then turn around and do the same with one of his custom iron sighted flintlocks.

The man is bad news.  He shot one shot with my Handi '06, tweaked the scope a bit, gave it back to me, and it's putting bullet almost on top of bullet dead center at 200 yards.  I'm trying to get him involved here, but he's not much on computers.  He does visit our muzzleloader classifieds regularly.

You may want to check out Treasure Coast Muzzleloaders.  They're a great bunch of people.  It is one of the few Florida things I miss.  Wayne can give you info at 772 334-4675 Heritage Electric.

I saw an idea somewhere that sounded fun. It was an egg shoot. Put an egg on a stand and shoot at it from 100 yards. Everybody shoots at once. If you miss you're out. Keep shooting till there's only one left.

We cheat a little bit and shoot at eggs at 600 yards - but of course we are shooting bolt action rifles and from a bench ;D. We do this every year at the Varmint Hunters Jamboree and it's really a whole lot of fun.

I'm having an H&R built now that i plan on shooting this year at the 600 yard shoot and I firmly believe that within 5 shots, i WILL be able to explode an egg.

You'd have to put a strobe light on an egg for me to see it at 600 yards.  What egg??? I don't see an egg.

;D ;D ;D I have a Weaver T36 target scope that i had modified to 45X that will show an egg at 600 yards real clear, as long as the heat mirage is not too bad but if it is, then i'll shoot a "dancing egg". ;D ;D ;D

"Heat Mirage".....Man, wouldn't I like to see some of that.  It was minus 5 here this morning.  I wonder what happens when a frozen egg is hit?

Anyone ever seen where they freeze something with liquid nitrogen and hit it with a hammer?  I imagine that.
