New 25-06
« on: February 04, 2009, 09:41:18 AM »
I just bought a new 25-o6. Laminated stock. Very nice looking rifle. I have a lot of Hornady bullets i bought to shoot i my 25-35. These are Sierra 60 grain. What are your thoughts on this bullet. Most of my shooting will be woodchucks and fox. How about powder. I have a good suply of imr 3031 and hodgon 4831. Are these usable powders in the 25-06?  I kinow nothing about this caliber. Don't even know why i bought it. My local dealer had one and it looked great. Guess that is all the reason i needed.  Any help you can give me on this Handi sure would be appreciated.  Thank you very much for any info.

I recomend moving up to a bullet in the 75-100 grain class.

Those 60's are meant for the 25-20. Yes they will work in any 25 rifle but you will not likely find them very accurate. If you woulf like to get rid of them, I would love to buy from you.. (PM Me if so)

I also agree with INRUT24/7 try some in the 75Gr size. these are meant for your purpose. 4831 is a good powder in the 25-06 too!!

BTW, congrats on the new "toy"!

In my 25/06 I found that IMR 4350 worked best for the 75 and 87 grain bullets and the 4831 did very well for the 100 and up crowd , I have to agree that the 60s would not be my first choice for this round either , I don't think they will handle the speeds that the 06 will be pushing them at .

Those 60 grain bullets will start out blazing and then slow down even faster.  I'd consider them a waste of barrel life in the 25-06.

Thanks for the info folks. And no CW the bullets are not for sale. I still have a 25-35 in a 10" Contender barrel. I will shoot them up in that. Thanks again.
