Strange ammo added to my collection
« on: January 20, 2009, 01:23:41 PM »
I don't know anything about these rounds that were given to me.
I don't recognize the clip or the caliber.
Here is the clip and ammo:

Here is the base: 19x35

Here is the weird part: That is a magnet stuck to the projectile:

Any ideas as to what rifle the clip fits, what the ammo was for?

I'd say they were 8x56mm Steyr cartridges.

The clip looks like a carcano clip.
Next time you take the picture could you put a 308 or 30-06 case in for a referance?
I would say 6.5 Carcano from the clip and the length of the bullet.

If your going to collect you may want to pick up a copy of "cartidges of the world"  The have dimentions of the case and the loaded round in them as well as a life size picture next to the caliber.

The Carcano doesn't use a rimmed case.

I'll do it.

I left the rounds t work today but I'll get a picture of the round next to a .308WIN for reference and I'' mic the diameter of the projectile.

Go to the surplusrifle site site:

Your ammo is 8x56R, used in the Steyr Mannlicher M95.
