Serial number prefix change
« on: January 06, 2009, 06:00:51 AM »
I got an update on the serial number prefix change, as of May 2008, SB2 frames are prefixed CBA and SB1 frames are CAC, dunno what the subsequent years will be yet.

My typing is correct, the change was made last year, May 2008.

I went to the gun shop after work today to pick up a rifle I had ordered. I noticed they had a few Handi-Rifles and H&R shotguns.
One of the shotguns was a .410 and I noticed it had the CAC prefix but it still had made in Gardner, Mass.
I guess Remington is just using up the inventory from Gardner?
I wonder when we will start seeing made in Ilon, NY?

GOOD SHOOTING!

Thats likely part of the change, but more importantly, Gardner was still in operation then and well after the June shutdown, they were still making parts into September, the SN change started in May. The change probably has more to do with the new ownership, just as the SN changed when the original H&R went belly up, they went to two letters starting with N or H.

So, the one that I bought last night (HY) was definately made in Gardner, prior to May.

New .223, 24" bull barrel for my son that is due next month.

I know, I'm a little ahead of schedule.

It will be great to be able to look at the serial number and know immediately if it is an SB1 or SB2!

You might be buying a little early, I got a Sportster 22 and a .410 for my niece for her 2nd birthday and everyone acted like that was early.
