I used one once on a .454 Cassull with no problems.  I can't speak for water-proof reliabilty, but its durability was great after about 2 boxes of ammo (I only took about 10 shots).

It's a zero-magnification "scope" - whether this is an advantage or disadvantage depends on your type of hunting.

The only thing I dont like about them is the MOA at 100 yds. I havent used the bushnell but the ones i have used were a 10 MOA, thats a 10" circle at 100 yds. It just wasnt for me, I like to see my groups tight and had a real hard time keeping them tight off a bench with that huge red circle that covers the entire target at 100 yards. If I get another one it would have to be for short range only or maybe a 3 MOA. Personaly I like the concept but like a scope better.

I have one and I have had it on several handguns. I used it on my 454 Casull, 44 MAG, and currently it is on my S&W625.  I have had no problems at all. As you turn down the brightness the dot gets smaller and easier to see your target. Indoor range shooting, I turn it down to almost the dimmest setting, but outdoor shooting it needs to be a little brighter. For hunting you can pick up your target very quick. I highly recommend them and use them. I have seen them on handguns, rifles and shotguns.

I had a Holosight on my RB 454, had it repaired twice.  The internal reflective glass kept falling apart after 100 to 150 rounds of 240gr XTP/Mags @ 1650fps.  2 others that I shoot with regularly had the same problem, 1 on a 454 Super Redhawk the other also on a Raging Bull, they were shooting 300gr at 1450 fps.  All were sent to Bushnell in Overland Park, KS and they repaired/replaced them but the lab said they are only rated for 44 Mag.  Took 2 deer last fall with mine and have no problem with how it functioned other than the above mentioned.  Switched to a JPoint, larger 4 MOA on the dot but have run in excess of 500 rounds with 0 problems.  The JPoint is vastley improved over its previous Tasco lineage and is considerably more compact than the Holosight. Holosights are waterproof per Bushnell.

If you're interested in the holosight, you should check out the eotech sight.  It's smaller than the holosight and is supposed to be a lot tougher.  It also has a much smaller sighting dot.

A buddy of mine has one on an AR and it works great for coyotes.

Just thought you might be interested....

I would love to see them put a preeure switch on them so when you grasp the grip the sight turns on and when you let off it turns off. this would save the battery

I have a halo sight on my 454 Raging Bull ,it works great an the dot is 1 MOA so the dot size is'nt a factor. It has held up well on my gun and does'nt seem to be hard on batteries. This sight really works good at last and first lightof the day ,which is usually a pretty good time to see game movement. Try one I don't think you will be dissapointed.
