Do you remember the Model 700 Gun Kit produced in 1987 & 1988?  I believe they came in .243, .270, .308, .30-06, and 7mmRM.  Not a great idea IMO but interesting.  If they would have been cheaper, perhaps they would have been more popular.

I remember them because I sold them while working at the local gun store right out of high school.  They weren't sought after per say, but I remember they did sell off fairly quick.

Interesting idea.  Were they that much cheaper than the finished complete gun???
