45/70 BC
« on: December 23, 2008, 09:44:45 AM »
I'm considering sending SB2 reciever off to have a BC 45/70 bbl, sights, and wood installed...

Need opinons here, should I just save an extra bit of money, and buy the BC outright, or go ahead and have Remington do the work and save some money...

Thoughts?

Personally, I'd just bite the bullet and buy the rifle and have two.  Swapping barrels around to me is a pain in the butt and I don't think it does much for accuracy.  Merry Christmas,

Plus the Buffalo Classic has a nice case hardened color on the receiver.

I'd have to agree on the complete rifle.

The BC in my opinion needs to remain a rifle unto itself.

Good looks, accuracy, and guns that shoot good seem to have their own character.

How can you have that with a loose barrel laying around, or changing barrels like you change socks? :o
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

The only reasons I would do are:
 1. I want the long barrel (which I would probably have cut to 28")
 2. I do not like straight stocks
 3. I need a scope

Bite the bullet and buy the whole rifle.  Tim knows lots of philanthropists who woud gladly donate the difference in cost, right, Quick? ;D :D :D ;D

I wouldn't even think about it.  I'd get the rifle in my hand, feel it, look at the wood to metal fit, the wood grain, the finish.  You can't do that piecemealing it.

I tried "accessory barrels" for about two months, and then it drove me nuts and I put complete rifles together.........as Tim does.

Personally I have to say I have done it both ways. I prefer to buy the complete rifle.
As I am not the most patient man and have more money than patience.  ::) :o ;D

Having done lots both ways, I prefer the whole rifle at once, but even when I've bought accessory barrels, they always end up on their own dedicated frame and stock.  ;)
