22 Jet is a centerfire round based on a necked down 357 case to 22. It was chambered originally in a Smith and Wesson revolver(I think) with a .222 barrel, and had inserts to shoot 22 rimfire as well. The case has alot of taper, and caused cylinder problems in the revolvers and was discontinued. I don't think it has been chambered for a number of years, and has limited use by a few guys here. Ballistics are around 22 Hornet levels, and handloading is probably necessary, don't know about factory ammo availability. HTH, Billy

The Jet was offered by the old H&R in the Topper model IIRC, so the barrel may or may not work without a lot of work, I had a Topper 158 for a while, and it wouldn't come close to fiitting any of my SB2 frames by about .100" too long of an underlug, but others have used the old barrels on modern frames with no problems, they must have had a huge spread in frame dimensions then. I had a bid on a barrel on ebay a few yrs ago, it went for over $200, so I quit bidding, but I had already bought an ebay RCBS die set just in case, sold the die set to Wally (mt3030) when he lucked into a complete rifle.  8)

Where has Stimpylu38 been recently?  He was playing with this round to go with (compliment)  his .224 GBR.  Both from modified (.224 cal) .22 WMR bbls.

He's around, he just moved, so he's been a little busy, I'm sure he'll check in when he can.  ;)

Ya I'm still alive & kick en , just got about 100 too many irons in the fire as normal .  ;D

As for the Rem Jet , its a fun little round for what it does , that's give you a step above the 22 mag but not quite to the Hornet , you can still find some factory ammo for it as old-new stock ( pricey ) and a few companies do a factory Reload ( still not cheap ) .

For mine it was a re chamber from a 22 mag with a .224 bore so finding the proper bullets is not an issue were as with the older Jet barrels you have to do some looking to find .222 or .223 bullets , they can still be had though .

I did the RJ for more than one reason , first was to do a brass forming project with more than one or two steps to get what I wanted , second was for a rifle that I could use to replace my 22 mag as a close range P-dog gun that I could reload , third was because of what Tim said about the old H&R barrels not fitting the newer frames and lastly I wanted it because H&R made one before .

For what it was designed for ( a pistol round ) it stinks , and as a rifle round it will never win a bench-rest comp. but as a reloadable , close in varmint round ( 100 yards or less ) its more than adequate .

I have passed on a couple of these bbl's mostly cause of the finding the right bullets issue as Stimp said they are out there ya just got to find them. Also having a Hornet and with the 5mm ammo price coming down it just don't make much sense for me. Although I have always found it to be kind of a romantic old school round. Kurt
